  • Every fence needs a permit

    Moses Lake requires a city fence permit for all fence construction, in every zone. Permits are processed under the city's Type I review.

  • Height limits

    In residential zones, front-yard fences can be up to 4 feet if solid or 5 feet if see-through, and side and rear fences up to 6 feet. Fences in other zones can reach 8 feet without a variance. On corner lots, nothing in the sight triangle can be taller than 36 inches.

  • Behind the sidewalk, with a planted strip

    Fences go behind the sidewalk, or at least 18 inches back from the street where there's no sidewalk, and never in the right-of-way. The strip outside the fence has to be landscaped and maintained, and the permit application asks for a ground cover plan for it.
