Fencing in Wenatchee: what to know

  • Along the street

    In residential and mixed-use zones, fences in the street and street-side setbacks are limited to 4 feet if solid, or 6 feet if less than half view-obstructing, like chain link, lattice, spaced pickets or rails.

  • Back and side yards

    Outside the street setbacks, fences can be solid and up to 6 feet tall. A fence on top of a retaining wall can use the full height allowed for where it sits on the lot.

  • Corner lots

    Unless the corner has a traffic signal, fences, shrubs and anything else in the triangle formed by 25 feet along each street can be no taller than 3 feet.

Fencing in Wenatchee: common questions

How tall can a commercial fence be?

Up to 8 feet in most spots. Solid fencing over 4 feet within 20 feet of the street can cover only a third of the frontage, long runs need masonry or brick columns, and chain link and barbed wire aren't allowed on the front within 20 feet of a public street.

Can you build a fence on a slope?

Yes. We set posts and gates on sloped and rocky ground, and we often build the fence together with a retaining wall.
