Irrigation in Wenatchee: what to know

  • District water or city water

    The City of Wenatchee says irrigation water in and around the city is managed by the Wenatchee Reclamation District, while drinking water comes from the city or Chelan County PUD. Before planning a new system, check with the district about your property's water and season.

  • Keep canal water out of the heads

    Irrigation district water isn't treated drinking water. A filter at the start of the system keeps sand and debris out of the valves and sprinkler heads, and it's worth cleaning at every spring start-up.

  • Backflow on city water

    A system tied to city water needs a backflow assembly. Wenatchee's cross-connection program requires it to pass a test by a Washington-certified tester when it's installed and every year after, and the city publishes an irrigation checklist for new installations.

Irrigation in Wenatchee: common questions

When should I start up and blow out my system in Wenatchee?

On district water, start up after the district turns the water on in spring, and blow the system out before the first hard freeze in fall. At start-up we check heads, valves and lines for winter damage.

Can you fix a system someone else installed?

Yes. We repair dry spots, soggy areas, broken heads, leaks and controller problems on existing systems.
